About Us
What we do
Deal Light Transport was founded in 1988 by Nigel Erricker. Located in Deal, Kent close to the Port of Dover and the Channel Tunnel, the business began with the aim of being a small, customer oriented transport and removals business.

We are experienced in most aspects of Transport. While our work is mainly in domestic removals, we have carried out work for local authorities, Government agencies, Charities, Film and Theatrical Productions and many other organizations.

We are able, either directly or through our extensive connections to assist in the movement, storage and distribution of just about anything.
Artwork, Antiques, Sculptures, Pianos, Heritage machinery. These are just some of the goods safely delivered over the years by our team of friendly and careful movers.
Useful Tips
Preparation is Key

This is for people that want to get the best bang for their buck, as the best way to save yourself some cash when moving is to be prepared. If we can load the van quickly and safely, and the same when unloading, we will get the contents of your house to your new property quicker. Meaning more cash in your pocket and we can either clock off earlier or go to another job.

Here’s a short list of potential time saving tricks you can do yourself. Although these don’t apply to everybody.

-
Disassemble necessary furniture (beds, wardrobes, tables).
-
Pack small items into sturdy boxes/ bags with labels and strong tape.
-
Try to save a place for us to park our van outside your house.
-
Disconnect TV’s, Washing Machines and all necessary electrical equipment.
-
If some things are staying and some are going, make a comprehensive list.
Let the Experts Get to Work

On move day, removal men will turn up at your house and come into your private space and start looking around. Clearly, this can be unsettling and can make the process even more stressful for some. Our team do this everyday and approach it with understanding and respect for your home and belongings, and aim to do it with a cheerful and helpful attitude.

-
If you don't like strangers looking at your private belongings, box them up before we arrive.
-
Our workers are only there to help. Please answer any questions but let the workers get on with it in their own way.
-
We're all good with dogs and kids but distractions can slow the move down.
-
Usually we have a strategy to get done safely and quickly so please respect that.
-
Also, please ask any questions you want. Transparency is essential.
It's Okay to Have Special Requirements . . . As Long As We Know About Them

Many of our customers have unique requirements, and that is one of the reasons why our customers come back to us. We aim to support your individual needs and we do all that we can to carry out the task professionally and safely. However, when we don't know about special requirements until the day of the move, this causes delays, frustrations and sometimes an added financial cost.
-
Clearly communicate all your needs as early as possible so we can prepare as required.
-
Bear in mind that we get unusual requests every week so don't hesitate to give us a call and discuss it.
-
If you do not know exactly what you need, you can discuss it in detail when Nigel comes round to do a survey on the move.
-
Failure to disclose information about what's to go or anything that directly effects the move, will probably result in a prolonged move day which will cost the customer more and bring unnecessary stress and tension.

Above all else . . . essential to a stress-free move is . . . to get the kettle on!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the general structure of the whole moving process?
A: Give us a call, we'll discuss your requirements and book a date for viewing. Nigel will pay you a visit and give a quote or will send you one later in the day. After your quote we will book you in the diary, arrange any resources and look forward to seeing you on move day.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: There are many variables that effect the cost of moving house. If the move seems straight forward we can give you a quick quote if you call 01304 373553, otherwise, we will do a free viewing to give you an accurate quote that meets all your needs.
Q: I'm on a budget, can you do it cheap?
A: In general, yes. There are lots of things you can do to save yourself time, therefore money, but either way we work quickly and efficiently. However, whether you're on a budget or not, we will not rush unnecessarily as that is how things get broken.
Q: Can you take "x" to the tip for me?
A: No. You need a license to dump waste commercially. Also, that is simply not what we do, please see our services page for all our current services.
Q: I have a precious item that needs transporting and then bringing back a week later?
A: Many of our customers work in the art industry, and recognize us as specialists in transporting their valuable works of art. We aim to accommodate all requests.
